Missouri Legislature Considers Green Building

04/28/10

The Missouri House of Representatives and Senate considered legislation regarding "green" building in March 2010.  Topics under consideration include:

  • Tax credits up to $50,000 per year, based on building area to owners or contract purchasers of new construction and/or renovations to existing structures that are certified as LEED Platinum, Gold, or Silver, OR qualify for a "three globes" rating under Green Globes;
  • Adoption of statewide standards for new construction and renovation that conform with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers’ (AHSRAE) Standard 90.1 and the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC); and
  • Disclosure by sellers of newly constructed residential homes of the structure’s energy efficiency rating under the Energy Star rating system at least one week before completion of the sale.

Missouri’s proposed legislation is part of a national effort to standardize "green," LEED and Energy Star ratings for uniform consumer disclosures and resource conservation.  Swanson Midgley continues to actively expand its Green Construction practice area, which includes Swanson Midgley’s ACORE membership and Holly Fisher’s LEED AP™ accreditation.  Swanson Midgley can assist you with your energy efficient or green construction business or future real estate development opportunities.  Please contact Holly Fisher or James F.
