Swanson Midgley Reminds Employers To Be Aware of New Form I-9 Requirements Effective April 3, 2009
04/02/09
United States immigration laws require employers to complete a Form I-9 to verify identity and employment authorization for all new hires and to re-verify employees with temporary work authorizations. Effective April 3, 2009, employers will be required to use a new Form I-9 which is available on the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at www.uscis.gov/i-9.
This new Form I-9 requires that any document presented for I-9 identification purposes be unexpired. In addition, the Form incorporates revisions to the list of acceptable identification documents which brings current the types of employment authorizations currently issued by USCIS. These modifications are all identified in the instructions associated with the new Form I-9.
If you would like more information on I-9 compliance, feel free to contact any member of the Swanson Midgley Human Resources Practice Group.
